Shanzamukoye Farmers Group's story

Shanzamukoye Farmers Group is located in Kakamega North District. It is a group of 15 women and 2 men led by Judith, pictured on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of sweet potato, millet and sorghum cultivation. Judith is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited for the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices and to grow enough food for the family.

Last year, Judith harvested 6 bags of maize on 1 acre of land. She is excited to improve her harvest as a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to lease more acres of land for planting, and perhaps to invest in another business. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Judith’s group will receive 8 1/2 acres worth of inputs on credit.
