Inama Group's story

Fred’s group has 12 farmers and is located in Chwele District. Fred is pictured on the right of the Inama Group with his hand raised. He is pictured among the 7 men and 5 women of his group. He will receive input loans capable of planting ½ an acre with sorghum and millet. Fred first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains season and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Fred joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices and grow enough food for the family.

Fred reports that before One Acre Fund he was able to grow about 2 1/2 bags of maize per ½ acre, but with his One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, he harvested 16 bags per 1/2 acre! He plans on using future profits from the harvest to send his children to school and save for the future. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Fred’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 6 acres of land.
