Jenga Ujengewe Group's story

Phanice is a member of Jenga Ujengewe Group in Chwele District. She is pictured with 11 One Acre Fund farmers, eight women and three men. Phanice is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for half an acre of sweet potatoes, millet and sorghum cultivation. Phanice joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2010 season, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Phanice joined One Acre Fund so that she could receive inputs on time and grow enough food for the family.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Phanice was only able to harvest five bags of maize per half acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012 season, she was able to harvest 22 bags per half acre! She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and buy a cow.

Phanice’s group members will each receive input loans of half an acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total, they will receive inputs for 5.5 acres of millet, sweet potatoes and sorghum.
