Nangwe East Group's story

Nangwe East Group is comprised of 16 farmers in Chwele District, represented by Protus. The group has 13 women and 3 men. Protus is on the right of the photo, with his hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to him on credit, consisting of sufficient materials to plant ½ acre of sweet potato, millet and sorghum. Protus joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2011, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Protus joined One Acre Fund so that he could gain access to the best input prices for hybrid seed and fertilizer.

Protus described his harvest as good last year, but he believes he can have an even better one this year. He hopes that his profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send his children to school and to save for the future. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs, on credit. In total, Nangwe East Group will receive 8 acres' worth of inputs on credit.
