Mbanacho Group's story

Zainab is pictured on the right with her hand raised amongst her Mbanacho Group members. The 10 of them, nine women and one man, are farmers in Chwele District. Farming inputs will be delivered to Zainab on credit and will include the necessary materials to plant ½ acre of sweet potato, millet, and sorghum. Zainab joined One Acre Fund during the long rains of 2009, and she is now enrolling for the long rains 2013 season. Zainab joined One Acre Fund so that she could gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and grow enough food for her family.

Zainab described her harvest as very good last year, but she believes she can have an even better harvest this year. She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to send her children to school and buy cattle. During the 2013 long rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Zainab’s group will receive five acres worth of inputs on credit.
