A loan of $400 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of sweet potato, millet, and sorghum.


Tumaini Khasolo Group's story

Tumaini Khasolo is a group of farmers in Chwele District represented by Moses. The group has eight women and two men. Moses is on the right of the photo with his hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to him on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ acre of sweet potato, millet and sorghum. Moses joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2011 and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Moses joined One Acre Fund so that he could grow enough food for the family and use the increased profits to send his children to school.

Moses described his harvest as excellent last year as a One Acre Fund farmer and hopes for another good year in the 2013 Long Rains season. He hopes that his profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send his children to school and save for the future. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Moses’ group will receive five acres worth of inputs on credit.
