Maniafu Group's story

Maniafu Group is located in Chwele District. It is a group of seven women and five men led by Alfred, pictured on the right with his hand raised. He is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of sweet potato, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Alfred first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2008 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Alfred joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and use the increased profits to send his children to school.

Alfred described his harvest as very good last year, but believes he can have an even better one this year. He hopes that his profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send his children to school and buy cattle. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Alfred’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on six acres of land.
