A loan of $400 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of millet, sweet potatoes, and sorghum.

Wedinya Group's story

Wedinya is a group of 10 farmers in Teso District, represented by Elizabeth. The group has six women and four men. Elizabeth is on the right of the photo, with her hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit, consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ acre of millet, sweet potatoes and sorghum. The 2013 Long Rains season will be Elizabeth’s first season with One Acre Fund. She joined this year in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer, and to use her increased profits to send her children to school.

Elizabeth thought her harvest last year was good. She hopes that as a One Acre Fund farmer, she can have an excellent harvest. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and buy a pig. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs, on credit. Wedinya Group will receive 5 acres' worth of inputs, on credit.
