Faulu Group's story

Faulu Group is a group of 11 farmers in Teso District represented by Merensiana. The group is composed of seven women and four men. Merensiana is on the right of the photo with her hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit, consisting of the necessary materials to plant a half-acre of millet, sweet potatoes and sorghum. The 2013 Long Rains season will be Merensiana’s first season with One Acre Fund. She joined this year in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and to grow enough to feed her family. Merensiana described her harvest last year as good. She hopes that, as a One Acre Fund farmer, she will be able to join the ranks of the One Acre Fund farmers who have doubled their harvests in their first year with the program. She plans on using the future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and perhaps to invest in another business. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive a half-acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Merensiana’s group will receive a total of 5.5 acres worth of inputs on credit. The field officer is standing on the left of the photo.
