A loan of $400 helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of millet, sweet potatoes, and sorghum.

Inuka Group's story

David is pictured on the right with his hand raised amongst his Inuka Group members. The 10 of them, 6 women and 4 men, are farmers in the Chwele District. Farming inputs will be delivered to him on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant a ½ acre of millet, sweet potatoes and sorghum. David joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2010 season, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. David joined One Acre Fund so that he could be assured of reliable input delivery and gain access to hybrid seeds and fertilizer.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, David was only able to harvest 3 bags of maize per ½ acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012 season, he was able to harvest 12 bags per ½ acre! He plans on using future profits from the harvest to invest in livestock and grow enough food for his family. David’s group members will each receive input loans of ½ acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total they will receive inputs for 5 acres of millet, sweet potatoes and sorghum.
