Bienjelesia Group's story

John is pictured on the right with his hand raised amongst his Bienjelesia Group members. The 11 of them, 5 women and 6 men, are farmers in Chwele District. Farming inputs will be delivered to him on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ acre of millet, sweet potatoes and sorghum. John joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2009, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. John joined One Acre Fund so that he could access the best input prices and use increased profits to send his children to school.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, John was only able to harvest 3 bags of maize per ½ acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, he was able to harvest 8 bags per ½ acre! He plans on using future profits from the harvest to send his children to school and save for the future. John’s group members will each receive input loans of ½ acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total they will receive inputs for 5.5 acres of millet, sweet potatoes and sorghum.
