A loan of $400 helped buy organic fertilizer.

Emercinda's story

47-year old Emercinda is a single mother who brought up two children, Ronal and Franklin, by herself. She now lives alone in the house she inherited 26 years ago. She is a farmer and works very hard so that she can support her sons who are at university in Lima. Every month she has to send them money for their expenses. This is the reason she works hard every day.

In her fields Emercinda grows potatoes, peas, and corn. All her harvest is sold in the wholesale market in the town of Tarma where she gets a good price. She also raises animals such as pigs, sheep, and guinea pigs. After they are fattened, she sells them to the butchers who come to her house and in this way earns more money.

As for the future, Emercinda wants to continue farming and increase production of good quality produce. With the S/. 1000 loan she will buy organic fertilizer to spread on her fields.
