In this Group: Dominga, Maria Candelaria

Dominga has a tortilla store. She has been selling tortillas for many years and has two employees. She also sells lunch food and snacks to people who work in the sector. She has requested a new loan because her maize reserves are running out and she has seen more demand for lunches. Offering up other dishes to her customers has meant that now she hasn't got enough money to buy vegetables and meat to prepare the food. For this reason she is requesting a loan to buy corn, and vegetable in order to prepare her lunch dishes.

Maria makes embroidered sashes and belts and crocheted tops. She also needs to ask for a loan to buy various items she needs for the shop, such as pastries, grains, sugar, sweets, biscuits and other things.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
