Kakata, Liberia / Food Market

A loan of $225 helped to buy more rice, pepper, oil, salt, onions, etc. for her business.

Sarah's story

Sarah is 32 years old and single. She lives in Kakata, the capital city of Margibi County, which is the highest-producing rubber plantation in Liberia. She has four children between 7 months to 12 years old. Only three of her children are in school and all four of them live at home. Sarah was unable to attend school herself.

For the past two years, Sarah has been selling rice, pepper, oil, salt, onions, etc. from a table in the market. She focuses on food items because the demand for cooked food items in Liberia is very high. She established her business with a loan from her mother. She enjoys the independence her income gives her.

Sarah is requesting a loan to buy more rice, pepper, oil, salt, onions, etc. for her business. Her plans for the future are to build a shop and a house for her children.
