Residing in the Kandal Stoeng district of Kandal province, Touch is 45 and married. She has four children, two of whom still dependent on her since they are students at the local state school.

To support this huge family, she been farming on a half hectare area, which she has been doing for 21 years. To better feed the family, her husband also uses his spare time to work for others for a fee.

Touch has been a member of Kiva’s partner for three cycles, and she has used her past loans successfully to better support her family and keep her children in school.

Now she is applying for a new loan with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner); Touch will use it to build a new concrete kitchen. She hopes this loan will enable her to build her kitchen on time so she can have a hygenic place to cook clean food for her children and have better health in the family.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
