Ligia De Jesús's story

Ligia was born in one of the "white villages," one of the most beautiful municipalities of the department of Masaya, which has one of the most visited scenic outlooks of Nicaragua, called Catarina. Ligia is 55 years old, and she is a tailor by profession, with 39 years of experience, while also being a homemaker. Her family nucleus is made up of herself and her husband. Her business is making sundresses for girls, dresses for fifteenth birthday celebrations, and wedding dresses. This work has allowed her to help her three daughters, who are now independent, get ahead in life. She sells her products by special order, since she has steady customers and others who are referred to her by her customers. Ligia also has a small business which she rents at the Catarina scenic overlook. She travels to the capital city to make her purchases from the Asian market there. At this time she is requesting a loan because she has an order for sundresses, and she needs to buy supplies such as embroidered organza, fabric for bridal gowns, shank fabric, fabric for linings, and medium sized zippers. Ligia also recognizes the value of her work, and one of her dreams is to invest in industrial machines so that she can create jobs for other women who are active in this field.
