Mwito Moja Group's story

Cornel’s group has 10 farmers and is located in Teso District. Cornel is pictured on the right of Mwito Moja Group with his hand raised. He is pictured among the 4 men and 6 women of his group. He will receive input loans capable of planting ½ an acre with sorghum, millet and sweet potatoes. Cornel first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Cornel joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and will use his increased profits to send his children to school.

Cornel reports that before One Acre Fund he was able to grow about 5 bags of maize per ½ acre, but with his One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, he harvested 11 bags per ½ acre! He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and to clothe his family. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Cornel’s group will receive a total of 5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
