A loan of $975 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of millet, sorghum and sweet potatoes.

Luvuro Farmers Group's story

Isaya’s group has 25 farmers and is located in Kakamega North District. Isaya is pictured on the right of the Luvuro farmers Group with his hand raised. Isaya is pictured amongst the 15 men and 10 women of his group. He will receive input loans capable of planting half an acre with sorghum, millet and sweet potatoes. The 2013 Long Rains season will be Isaya’s first season with One Acre Fund. He joined this year in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and access the best input prices.

Isaya managed to harvest five bags of maize on 2 acres of land last year. As a One Acre Fund farmer, he hopes to harvest even more! He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and to save for the future. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive half an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Isaya’s group will receive 12.5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
