Joy Group's story

Jane is pictured on the right, with her hand raised, amongst her fellow Joy Group members. The 12 of them - eleven women and one man - are farmers in Kakamega North District. Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant one half-acre of millet and sorghum. Jane joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2010, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Jane joined One Acre Fund so that she could gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and use the increased profits to send her children to school.

Jane described her harvest last year as good as a One Acre Fund farmer and hopes for another good year in the 2013 Long Rains season. She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and save for the future. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Jane’s group members will take input loans of one half-acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 6 acres of land.
