Khaka Group's story

Khaka is a group of 17 farmers in Chwele District. It is represented by Catherine. The group has 14 women and 3 men. Catherine is on the righthand side of the photo with her hand raised.

Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant a half-acre of millet and sorghum. Catherine is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited for the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined the One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and benefit from other top-ups like solar lights.

Last year, Catherine harvested 7 bags of maize on one acre of land. She is excited to improve her harvest as a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and to buy a cow. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Catherine’s group members will take input loans of half an acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 8 half-acres of land.
