Amka Group's story

Magret is a member of Amka Group in Chwele District. She is pictured with 10 One Acre Fund farmers, 7 women and 3 men. Magret is standing at the back of the photo raising a One Acre Fund Post. She is receiving an input loan for a half acre of Sweet Potato, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Magret joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Magret joined One Acre Fund so that she could grow enough food for the family and use increased profits to send her children to school.

Magret reports that before One Acre Fund, she was able to grow about 5 bags of maize per 1.5 acres, but with her One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, she harvested 12 bags per 1.5 acres. She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and buy a cow. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Magret’s group members will take input loans of a half acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 5 acres of land.
