A loan of $425 helped a member to farm a half an acre through the Long Rains 2013 season.

Mulembe A Group's story

Mulembe A is a group of eleven farmers, two women and nine men, in Chwele District and is headed by Cleophas (seen on the right with his hand raised). Enough seed and equipment to farm half an acre of sweet potato, millet and sorghum will be given to each farmer on credit so that together the group will receive enough supplies to farm five and a half acres in all.

Cleophas joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012 season and is now enrolling for Long Rains 2013. He joined the fund so that he could gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer at the best prices. He described his harvest as good last year but believes he can have an even better one this year.

Cleophas hopes that his profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send his children to school and repair his home.
