A loan of $1,475 helped to buy fruits and vegetables.

María Magdalena's story

Los Bajos de Montecristi is a city known for its great diversity of typical goods, like, for example, the Panama hats that are widely known both inside and outside of the country. The members of the communal bank 4 de Noviembre meet here every fifteen days.

María lives in this place. She is sixty-one years old, is married, and has eight children, all of whom are grown. Three of her children still live in her house. Her husband does not work; he is very old and sick.

María has a small business selling fruits and vegetables. She has a stand in the Manta Market with one of her children; there, they work every day from 5AM until 4PM. Presently, her son is the one that is doing the selling, since she is usually unable to do so because of her age. This business sustains the entire family, and they have been in this business for more than fifteen years. Because of this, María and her family have been able to move ahead.

This loan will be used to buy fruits and vegetables.

She has been a member of the communal bank since it started, and she likes it because they always give her a lot of help to continue moving forward. Her dream for herself and her family is to be healthy.
