A loan of $300 helped to buy beehives to produce honey.

Eunice's story

Eunice has two children and lives in Kakamega county. Kakamega county is located in Western Kenya, close to the Ugandan border. It contains the only tropical rain forest in Kenya and the variety of the flora in the region makes it well suited for beekeeping. It has one of the highest rural population densities in the world - in some areas, close to 600 people per square kilometer - which may contribute to the region's high poverty rates.

Eunice has been farming for three years and is currently growing maize and beans on her land. She likes working with Honey Care Africa because the field techs visit her farm regularly and do good work inspecting the hives. Eunice enjoys beekeeping because bees are easy to keep and don't require management.

Eunice plans to use the income generated from her hives to expand her farming activities, by planting fruit trees and keeping chickens. Her hope for the future is to be a role model to the community and empower them in farming.
