PUCALLPA, Peru / Agriculture

A loan of $1,175 helped to cover the costs of maintaining, fertilising and harvesting his crops.

Jairo's story

Jairo is 22 years old and lives in the city of Pucallpa. He is very friendly, hard-working, enthusiastic and has a strong desire to move ahead in life. Unfortunately, due to a lack of money and because he needed to find work to support his parents, Jairo was not able to study medicine as he had wanted. In his spare time he likes to prepare a delicious "Seco de Res" (a traditional, Peruvian beef stew) to share with his family.

Under his own initiative and with a lot of dedication and determination, Jairo makes a living in agriculture and has a small cocoa plantation where he carries out various jobs. He works every day for around ten hours and he thinks it is going well because he is responsible and because he treats others well.

Jairo is very grateful to Kiva lenders as, thanks to the support provided, he will be able to cover the costs of maintaining, fertilising and harvesting his crop. As a result Jairo's crops will grow properly and he will have good sales. This will then allow him to continue working and putting in the effort to achieve his dream of becoming a successful professional.
