A loan of $775 helped to buy pea seeds.

Olinda's story

Olinda is 38 years old, and together with her husband Walter has two children - 15 and 2 years of age. Olinda and her family live in her Aunt's house, located on a rural farm. Olinda works in agriculture, and has some of her own land where she plants peas, potatoes and corn. Olinda tells us that sometimes with her corn harvest she is only able to recover what she has invested, due to the frosts and pests that affect this crop. However, she also tells us that she does not have the same problem with peas. Additionally, she receives further income from selling guinea pigs, which started raising 5 years ago. Now, Olinda is planning to bring her eldest son to Lima so he can begin to study there. This is one of the reasons why she is working so hard to get ahead and improve her income. This month she will begin planting more peas, and as a result is requesting this loan to purchase the seeds. This is Olinda's 6th loan with Kiva, and she is very dedicated to paying all monthly loan quotas on time.
