A loan of $5,000 helped a member to buy groceries for resale.

Shine On Group's story

This is 57-year-old Ruth from Harare. She is married and has two children, 25 and 30 years old. Ruth is engaged in cross-border trading, mainly buying groceries from neighboring countries for resale. The business has been in operation for 21 years. The main challenge in this business is stiff competition, as well as obtaining space for a shop in town. Ruth has applied for a loan of $1,000 as her part of this group loan, to buy more groceries and kitchenware for resale. She says the extra income generated as a result of this loan will allow her to increase her family’s family cash flow and improve their quality of life. In five years’ time, Ruth sees herself owning a grocery store in town that is fully stocked.
