Sabougnouma Group's story

The Sabougnouma Group is made up of six married women with an average age of 34 years and an average of four children. They live in traditional extended families with their husbands, co-wives, brothers and sons in the Massablacoura district of the city of Bougouni. They know one another through ties of vicinity, friendship and commerce. To increase their financial capacity and improve their businesses, they joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso and are on their first loan cycle.

This group does business selling flour through Badjene, shown second from the right in the photo. Badjene buys and sells flour, and with this loan she plans to purchase 300 Kg of flour from the merchants in Bamako. She sells her flour from her home, at retail, for cash and on credit to a clientele composed mainly of women. Badjene expects to make an average monthly income of 17,500 FCFA, which she will use to reinvest in her business and repay her loan.
