Maduma Group's story

Jafred is a member of Maduma Group in Kakamega North District, Kenya. He is pictured with 10 One Acre Fund farmers: eight women and two men. Jafred is standing on the right with his hand raised. He is receiving an input loan for a half acre of Sweet Potato, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Jafred first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Jafred joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for his family and use increased profits to send his children to school.

Jafred described his harvest as very good last year, but believes he can have an even better one this year. He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and repair his home. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive a half-acre's agricultural inputs on credit. Jafred’s group will receive a total of five acres worth of inputs on credit.
