Maendeleo Group's story

Maendeleo is a group of 10 farmers in Kakamega North District represented by Justine. The group has 8 women and 2 men. Justine is on the right of the photo with her hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ acre of sweet potato, millet and sorghum. Justine is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited for the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to the best input prices of hybrid seed and fertilizer.

Justine described her harvest last year as good, but hopes she can have an even better one as a One Acre Fund farmer. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and save for the future. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Justine’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 5 acres of land.
