A loan of $550 helped a member to buy fertilizer and pesticides for her farmland.

Sokong's Group's story

Sokong, 32, is married with four dependent children; three are in school while the remaining one is too young for school. Her family lives in a house with a thatch roof located in Battambang province's Moung Russey district and the main sources of her family's income are from farming rice and growing chilies. She has been running her business for 11 years, earning about 25,000 Riels (KHR) per day. She has had five loans from Kiva's partner, VisionFund, and has effectively used them to sustain her family's business, support her family's needs and save some money from the earnings for the future. Now she is leading her group to ask for a loan. She is going to use her portion to buy fertilizer and pesticides for her farmland. She hopes to increase her crop yields to earn more income to make a living better and also keep her children in school.
