Ana Cecilia
Ana Cecilia is from the municipality of El Sauce. She has worked as an elementary school teacher in a school in a district outside of this municipality for 24 years. This work has allowed her to support her two school-aged children by herself.

She is a very straightforward and hard-working woman, who has been able to get ahead without the help of the father of her children.

Through her colleagues at work, she heard that Ceprodel finances loans for low-income people who need them to improve their homes, and that there are some investors in other countries who provide the funds.

For this reason, she presented herself for the first time at that office to apply for a loan, because she currently needs to construct a concrete tank to store water, since in her village there are many water outages. She will use the loan to buy bricks, cement, galvanized metal, and sand, and to pay for labor.

She is confident that these good-hearted investors will finance her request so that she can carry out her investment.

This loan is administered by Centro de Promocion del Desarrollo Local (CEPRODEL), one of Kiva’s larger partners in Central America. Founded in 1991 and based in Managua, Nicaragua, CEPRODEL specializes in the development and funding of housing cooperatives for traditionally marginalized communities, the provision of microfinance services to small businesses, and the promotion of innovative renewable energy projects. In addition, unlike many microfinance institutions in the area that have chosen to avoid the rural areas of the country due to the increased financial risk, CEPRODEL provides financial services to numerous clients in the agriculture and livestock industry. Supporting a borrower through CEPRODEL means contributing to the promotion and sustainability of this important work in Nicaragua.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
