A loan of $675 helped to buy undergarments to sell.

Mónica Edith's story

Sra. Mónica joined the “María Reina de La Paz” (Mary, Queen of Peace) Communal Bank several years ago and has formed a great friendship with all of the other members. She lives in the city of Cuenca, which is surrounded by four rivers. There are several places where one can enjoy the natural beauty. The people have preserved their culture, their traditions, and their rich cuisine.

Sra. Mónica is 37 years old, married, and has four children (ages 19, 16, 13, and 9). Her oldest daughter works and helps out financially. The next two children are in high school and the youngest son attends an elementary school in the city. Her husband works for a company as a private employee. They do not own a home, so they are currently living independently at the house of her in-laws.

Sra. Mónica works every day and has been managing her store for eight years. She also prepares buffets and banquet decorations for social events. All of these business activities enable her to be financially independent so that she can help her family get ahead.

Being an enterprising woman, Mónica will invest her loan in the purchase of undergarments so that she can start a new business.
