A loan of $600 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Melania's story

Melania is 57 years old. She is married to Hector and they have a child who is 16 years old.

With a lot of effort Melania has successfully taken the long road of agriculture and this is why she gets up every morning to work on the fields making them productive. She grows potatoes, peas, carrots, and beans and then later takes them to sell at the wholesale market in the city of Tarma, where she sells them at a wholesale price. Her crops have provided the necessary income to support her family and this is why she wants to put all her efforts into getting ahead in this business.

The thing that she likes most in her work is caring for her crops. She has thirty years experience and she thinks the most difficult thing is getting her product to Tarma, as the sacks are very heavy.

She says also that she raises livestock, fattening the animals for later sale of the meat, and “it always goes very well,” she comments. And she has the advice of her husband who works as a farmer on other farms to earn extra money. So she is hoping to buy more land in in order to increase her production.

Melania will invest the 1500 soles in the purchase of organic fertilizer to nourish her vegetables.
