Leon, Nicaragua / Furniture Making

A loan of $1,300 helped to buy wood, glue, nails, screws, paint, varnish and sandpaper.

Claudia Mercedes's story

Claudia lives with her husband and two children in the city of León. For the past six years she has worked selling furniture. She says she started out with very little capital but gradually saw that the business was profitable because the furniture they make is crafted by hand. Claudia shares this business with her husband. In their small workshop they make beds, chairs, tables and wooden cribs. Their business has allowed them to provide for their family and pay for their children’s school. She currently sells night tables, wardrobes and rocking chairs. She hopes to gradually increase the variety of furniture she can offer to her customers.

Claudia is requesting this loan to buy wood, glue, nails, screws, paint, varnish and sandpaper. She says the loan will make it easier for her to obtain the raw materials she needs to make a variety of home furniture. Her dream is to have a large furniture store to improve her earnings and build a suitable house for her children.
