Armando's story

Armando is 48 years old, and is married to Emilia with whom he has two children. He lives with them in an adobe house bought many years ago. He owns a business selling foodstuffs. Initially, he made a living in various temporary jobs which enabled him to save money and set up his current business. He works in a room fitted out for business on the first floor of his home, where he set up, initially acquiring basic merchandize, and later managing to consolidate his business into his family's main livelihood. He is supported by his wife, who manages the business. His store sells basic goods such as rice, sugar and cereals and groceries, which he buys wholesale to make higher profits. However, he needs to keep his store fully stocked in case of a large number of customers. He plans to work with his usual motivation so that, over time, he manages to grow his business and build his home using stronger materials, to improve his family's quality of life. This is his first loan with Kiva, and he feels very grateful for this opportunity, since he needs financial support to continue his work. This time, he would like 4,000 soles to invest in buying foodstuffs for his business, including bags of rice, sugar, cereals, fish sauces, candy and other products that sell well.
