Nuru Group's story

Pauline is pictured on the right with her hand raised amongst her Nuru Group members. The 16 of them, 10 women and six men, are farmers in Chwele District. Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ acre of sweet potatoes, millet, and sorghum. Pauline joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Pauline joined One Acre Fund so that she could access the best input prices and use increased profits to send her children to school.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Pauline was only able to harvest two bags of maize per ½ acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, she was able to harvest eight bags per ½ acre. She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and save for the future. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Pauline’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on eight acres of land.
