Zidisha Group's story

Mary is a member of Zidisha Group in Chwele District. She is pictured with 17 One Acre Fund farmers, 11 women and six men. She is receiving a loan for ½ acre of sweet potato, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Mary first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices and grow enough food for her family.

Mary described her harvest as good last year, but believes she can have an even better one this year. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and save for the future. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Mary’s group will receive 8.5 acres worth of inputs on credit. Mary is standing on the right with her hand raised.
