A loan of $425 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of sweet potato, millet and sorghum.


Akibelo Kin Group's story

Akibelo Kin is a group of 11 farmers in the Teso District represented by John. The group has 5 women and 6 men. John is on the right of the photo with his hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to him on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant a ½ acre of sweet potato, millet and sorghum. The 2013 Long Rains season will be John’s first season with One Acre Fund. He joined this year in order to gain access to the best input prices of hybrid seed and fertilizer.

John managed to harvest eight bags of maize on a ½ acre of land last year. As a One Acre Fund farmer, he hopes to harvest even more. He hopes that his profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send his children to school and repair his home. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. John’s group will receive 5.5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
