A loan of $700 helped to buy spaghetti.

Assétou's story

Ms. Assétou is a 32-year-old married mother of three children. She lives in a large traditional extended household with her husband and children in Kaboïla II, one of the populous areas of the city of Sikasso (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali).
After having run several businesses without success, Ms. Assétou began buying and selling spaghetti over two years ago. She runs her business at her home. She is highly sought-after by her clientele for the quality of her products. To satisfy her increasingly growing clientele, she decided to join the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso two years ago, and she is on her fourth individual loan, with the three previous loans having been repaid properly.
With this fourth loan, she intends to buy 60 boxes of spaghetti of varying kinds from the wholesalers. She has a clientele composed essentially of women, and she sells at retail in cash.
With this loan, she foresees realizing a monthly profit of 75,000 FCFA, which will be used to contribute to household expenses, pay off the interest on her loan, and invest in her business.
