Katamakisi Group's story

Katamakisi is a group of 17 farmers in Teso District, represented by Celestine. The group has 12 women and 5 men. Celestine is on the right of the photo, with her hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit, consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ acre of sweet potato, millet and sorghum. Celestine first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and use increased profits to send her children to school.

Celestine described her harvest as very good last year, but she believes she can have an even better one this year. She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and repair her home. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Katamakisi Group will receive 8.5 acres' worth of inputs, on credit.
