Concepta is a mother of three children, aged between eight and two years old. She has been in the farming business for eleven years with her farm produce being maize and milk, besides running a retail business too within the local market.
Concepta has requested a loan of 52,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to help her buy and insure a dairy cow. She had previously acquired a loan of 30,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo. She sees the farming business enabling her to buy more farm land as well as increase her dairy cows to six.
She says the farming proceeds will help her educate her children. She mentions lack of reliable farmhands and stiff competition within the local market as challenges.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
