Urejesho Group's story

Urejesho is a group of 21 farmers in Webuye District represented by Violet. The group has 15 women and 6 men. Violet is on the right of the photo with her hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ acre of sweet potatoes, millet and sorghum. Violet first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Violet joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices, and One Acre Fund also promotes healthy water by providing chlorine for farmers.

Violet described her harvest as very good last year, but believes she can have an even better one this year. She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and save for the future. Violet’s group members will each receive input loans of ½ acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total they will receive inputs for 10.5 acres of sweet potatoes, millet and sorghum.
