Khakakho Group's story

Jane’s group, Khakakho, has twenty-three farmers and is located in Webuye District. Jane is pictured on the right of the photo with her hand raised. Jane is pictured amongst the five men and eighteen women of her group. She will receive input loans for planting ½ an acre with sorghum, millet, and sweet potato. Jane joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains of 2010 and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Jane joined One Acre Fund so that she could grow enough food for her family and use increased profits to send her children to school.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Jane was only able to harvest eight bags of maize per acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains of 2012, she was able to harvest eighteen bags per acre. She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to send her children to school and perhaps buy a cow.

During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Jane’s group will receive 11.5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
