A loan of $1,275 helped to do up her home and repair the farm.

Rosa Natividad's story

Rosa is a 46-year-old woman, she was born in the small town of Loja where she finished secondary school and then got married to Jesús who is 59 years old and is a farmer. They have two children who are still studying. Rosa currently lives with her husband and children in the Abrahan Calazacón parish in Santo Domingo, the main city of the Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas province, an area which has very strong commerce as it has become a terrestrial port for trade between the mountains and the coast in Ecuador. In addition, domestic and foreign tourists have strengthened the activities of the entrepreneurs who set up their business around the city several years ago. This city is the third most populated in the region and it also contributes to activities such as agriculture, cattle rearing, fishery and manufacturing. For the last four years, Rosa has been making her living in agriculture. She learnt this honorable trade from her parents who were also farmers. She spends a lot of her time in the mornings and the afternoons alternating between the household chores. She is always caring for her crops, watering, cleaning, harvesting and sowing in order to offer the goods to her customers at good prices. The biggest obstacle that Rosa has faced is the difficulty in authenticating the land in which she works. However, she has continued to work hard to support the household and support her children's education. Rosa has been a customer of the Fundación Alternativa for four years and she has had a lot of openings with the 3 loans she has taken out. Rosa is very satisfied with the agility and support given to micro-entrepreneurs in the rural sector, as it is only in this manner that she has been able to keep the farm and her crops in such good condition. Rosa now needs a loan which she will use to repair the internal and external infrastructure of her home and also buy fertilizers for the upkeep of her crops. Rosa thanks everyone who has been financing her growth on a personal and work front via Kiva. She will always work to achieve her dream and that of her husband – to see their children become upstanding professionals.
