Adama A.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva based in Makeni in northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you this group of teachers from from Makeni city. These hard working and dedicated teachers have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to request a loan of 11,500,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) for the entire team in order to meet their immediate financial challenges. At the end of each month, they can easily repay the loan, using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making repayments on their behalf. Alie is the featured leader of this team of teachers. The 50-year-old is married to a petty trader and the couple has five children – 1 in primary school and 4 in secondary school. Alie has been a teacher for 22 years now. He has requested this loan in order to meet two of his most pressing needs – to pay school fees for his children and to buy house building materials.
