A loan of $600 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Benigna's story

Benigna, 43, is a widow and the mother of five children, with whom she lives in the house she bought six years ago.

Her land is located very close to the river in the vast green areas of the center of the town. "My harvests are very good because I have irrigation available," she said. Her main crops are potatoes and corn because that's where she gets the most income.

She started working in agriculture when she was very little and learned everything she needed to about the land when she had her family. Her parents gave her the plots of land and she started to go out on her own. "It wasn't hard because when I was young I used to go with my mother to sell the food in the city of Huancayo, where I still have customers today," she said.

This is her fourth loan with Kiva and she's very grateful for the financial support she gets to continue with her agricultural activity. She pledges to make her payments punctually.

Benigna will use the 1500 soles [PEN] to buy organic fertilizer to nourish her cornfields.
