Saumu's Group's story

Saumu is a 30-year-old mother of seven children, and an arid land farmer. She grows maize and cassava. Her crops are affected by pests and diseases, and she does not have the money for pesticides. When asked why she joined the KOMAZA microforestry program, Saumu replied, "I need to improve my life through KOMAZA, by planting money-generating trees. People speak good of KOMAZA, [saying] that it is assisting farmers to improve their lives, and I joined it." With the profits from her tree farm, Saumu will educate her children and build a house for her family.
