A loan of $800 helped a member to buy gallons of palm-oil and a large quantity of firewood.

Rokel Social Club Group's story

Meet the members of the “Rokel Social Club,” a loan group from Magburaka, a town in northern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, to apply for a loan of 500,000 SLL for each. With the help of this loan, members will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales, and improve on their living conditions. Rugiatu is the featured leader of this group. The 26-year-old is married with three children who are attending primary and secondary schools. Rugiatu has been a businesswoman for six years now. She sells palm-oil (the country’s most popular cooking oil) and firewood. Rugiatu will use her portion of the loan to buy gallons of palm-oil and a large quantity of firewood to add to her current stock.
