Namawanga Group's story

Knight’s group has 16 farmers and they reside in Chwele District. Knight is pictured on the right of the Namawanga Group with her hand raised. Knight is pictured amongst the 7 men and 9 women of her group. She will receive input loans capable of planting ½ an acre with sorghum and millet. Knight first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Knight joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and also because One Acre Fund provides the inputs at the right time for her to plant earlier.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Knight was only able to harvest 1 1/2 bags of maize per ½ acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, she was able to harvest 15 bags per ½ acre! She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and buy land. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Knight’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 8 acres of land.
